ADHD ASSESSMENTS

Why Assess for ADHD?

Accurate information means more accurate treatment—at any age. ADHD is not a disease or something that’s “wrong.” ADHD is a cognitive condition–a brain difference–that impacts focus, motivation, learning, and memory (Hallowell, 2024). Individuals with ADHD also report difficulties with sensory processing, emotion regulation, time management, rejection sensitivity, or social challenges—all of which can impact self-esteem and contribute to mood disorders like depression or anxiety.

Your Perch Assessment provides:

  •  Detailed insight into strengths and challenges

  • Context for difficulties you’ve faced

  • Access to resources and support

  • A path toward self-compassion

New research and more emphasis on individuals’ lived experience is revealing that ADHD is often misunderstood—especially in girls and women. An assessment is your chance to stop wondering and start growing.

Navigating neurodiversity

Kelly Hilst, MA, LPC
Founder, Perch Coaching & Assessment

My personal experience as a therapist and late-diagnosed adult helped me realize that properly identifying and diagnosing ADHD can be life-changing. I started Perch Coaching & Assessment because traditional diagnostic measures can be confusing at best and offensive at worst. I wanted to provide a neuro-affirming assessment process that leads to an accurate diagnosis and specific treatment options. So, I use an approach that values your personal insight and lived experience alongside standard measures.

As a coach, I offer a robust toolkit of creative, science-backed strategies that lead to lasting changes. I’ve helped families transcend extreme emotional dysregulation, sleep disruptions, anxiety, and other behavioral difficulties to foster secure relationships and create more harmony in the home.

I have specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (an evidence-based approach to developing skills for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness.

I earned my Master's in Counseling from the University of Colorado Denver and holds a dual licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Colorado and a Licensed Professional School Counselor (PreK-12).

I worked as a mental health professional in public schools for more than five years before starting Kelly Hilst Counseling, my private practice specializing in ADHD, anxiety, and sensory sensitivities.
